Week 24

The latest belly photo.

The Fruit of the week is...

an ear of sweet corn!! :) The baby is around twelve inches long this week. Technically, I don't think that the ear of corn I am holding in this picture is a foot long but it was the best I could do right now.

This was just such a perfect comparison this week. Here is a picture of a what lines our yard this year and I love it! It has been so fun to watch grow. This could possibily be one of the most amazing plants. How can that grow from 1 seed..to about 7 foot tall in about 4 months?! In that four month time it grows about three to four ears of corns on each stalk and in each ear of corn there are thousands of kernels. How does that even happen in such a short amount of time?!
Fun Fact: Did you know that each fine silk that sticks out the top of the ear of corn is connected to one kernel of corn. So if you need to keep your mind busy sometime count to see if the number of kernels match the number of silk!:)
God has done some amazing things in His creation.
This is also what Pete has been looking at for the past 4 weeks! The lovely Iowa summer job of detasseling and roguing has been his endeavor this year. Pete and another guy have been leading a crew of about 25-35 teenagers through the corn fields. Despite the 4am wake up times, damp clothes, and heat, Pete has really enjoyed himself. We actually have a great group of hard working teenagers which makes the job easier. He has been able to connect with some neat kids, which he enjoys. So far, he believes this is something he could get used to in the summers to come. We'll see what he says in a couple of weeks when the season is complete and we see our pay check.:)

For those of you who have to miss out on good ol Iowa sweet corn, here is a pic that will make your mouth water! Nothing beats Bacon Lettuce Tomato (fresh from the garden) sandwiches with a side of fresh picked Iowa SWEET CORN! *slurp*

An Official Iowa Summer Meal!
